OMR features

f-morozov
Hi.
I'm doing research in computer vision and was looking for interesting practical GSoC projects.
I have basic music education and experience so I thought about automatic recognition of scanned sheet music as a cool feature for MuseScore.
Of course it's almost impossible to reach perfect accuracy, but such tool could significantly  facilitate the process and require only a few manual adjustments.
This feature is also closely related to proposed OMR idea that is mostly about the right interface.
Do you think such feature would be valuable for MuseScore project? Looking forward to your opinions and suggestions.

Hi Fedor,

OMR is of course useful for many users of a music notation software like MuseScore. However, I'm pretty sure implementing an OMR engine can't be done in 3 months. One of the only working open source OMR is Audiveris http://audiveris.org and it's in development since many years now.

The idea you are referring to http://musescore.org/en/node/37856#OMR is about a very simple OMR to get the number of measures per line, the number of staves and the space between two lines of a staff in order to ease the transcription process.

Feel free to join IRC #musescore at freenode.net if you want to refine your idea.

Regards,
lasconic
