Segmentation faults!!

Paul John Leonard
Hi Mscore Developers,

I tried out the ubuntu package (but too many things not working right).
So I checked out the SVN trunk. After installing all the packages needed
I got a clean compile and install. But it regularly does segmentation
faults. (e.g. I just hit cntrl-Z to undo and it crashed).
Is this to be expected or could there be a problem with my setup?
I know the SVN trunk is not the best place to find stable code so is
there a recent stable snapshot ?

Apart from not being able to use it  . . .  it looks very
promising . . . great work guys.

cheers Paul.

Which Ubuntu release are you running? The latest stable release, 0.9.2
is available in Hardy, with the most up-to-date version of the
packaging in Debian unstable (and thus Intrepid). I don't experience
too many segfaults on this release; and haven't had many bug reports.
Could you obtain a backtrace?

Re: Segmentation faults!!

Paul John Leonard
Hi

I am running ubuntu hardy on a intel core 2 using the realtime 32bit
OS.

Probably most useful if I use the latest SVN ?

I have just made it with "make debug" and I am now running using gdb

Not sure how you get a backtrace. Several years since I did Qt/C++
(not so many seg faults using JAVA!!!)

 Some observations/questions.

I often find I can not get back to the note edit mode (displaying the
floating note + lines). The "N" is highlighted but notedit does not
appear in the status bar.

Is there a way to copy a selected group of notes. cntrl-C cntrl-V does
not work.

After saving and reloading playback sometimes does not work and I get

FluidSynth: channel 1 dataA 55 dataB 0: There is no preset with a  bank
number 0 and preset number 71 in SoundFont 1

How do I associated voice with a stave?

cheers Paul.

Hi Paul,

if you want to help making mscore more stable please try to explain
exactly what you did to produce a crash. If i can reproduce it, i usually
can fix it. Assume that the bug which crashes the app is not known to me.

It would also be nice if you could explain in more detail what things
are not working right in the ubuntu version (0.9.2)

Regards,
Werner

Paul,

It is possible to copy notes, but you have to select the notes a
particular way.

1. Click on an empty part of the measure that you wish to copy (a blue
square will appear around the selected measure)
2. Edit --> Copy
3. Click on an empty part of the measure that you wish to paste to
4. Edit --> Paste

If you want to copy multiple measures you can use shift-click to expand
your initial selection.

Developers,

I think it would be worthwhile for MuseScore to support copy-paste even
if the user only selected the note head or used shift-click-drag.
Other's have had difficulty with it too

Re: Copy paste

Paul John Leonard
Yes I had discovered that way.

There only seems to be a way to copy whole bars to new bars.

I wanted to copy a chord several times in a bar to create a fast vamp.

Paul.
