Translations on new site

David Bolton-2
Some issues I noticed with the translations on the new web site.

* Language links are not visible on the home page
* Tag line and download button (top of page) are always English
* Menu (right-hand side) is incomplete for non-English pages
* Links page only available in English
* Lacks automatic language negotiation (e.g. automatically display
French version for French users)

One other thing I am wondering about are the news items. Is there a way
to translate important news items, such as release announcements, for
display on the home page?

Can you tell us how you test the language stuff ?
I'm french and my firefox and IE are in french, and language preference set to french too. And slogan + download button are in French. The description of the project is also in french. The menu is complete in French as far as I know and point to pages in the right language (only links might need some works indeed). So the "automatic language negociation" seems ok to me.

Regarding others languages, I guess translations are welcome :).

Regarding the langage links on homepage, if language negociation is OK, are these links necessary ?

Lasonic,

Try clicking on a language link other than your default. Does the slogan
and download button change to the selected language? Does the menu
contain all the links it is supposed to?

English is my default. When I click on French I only see three pages in
the menu ("Téléchargement", "Forum", "Links") even though I know more
pages have been translated.

I guess the language negotiation is working if it shows up in French for
you and English for me. I was trying to test it by moving French to the
top of the preferred language list in the preferences. Maybe you have to
install a language-specific version of the browser to activate language
negotiation. I've not worked with multiple languages on a website before
so I don't know much about it.

Indeed, You are right about the fact that the links in article don't change the whole site language.
The weird thing is that my menu in french is minimal (no features etc ...).

Hi David,

Somehow, the multi language setup didn't come out of the box as it should. So, some issues you are describing are in fact bugs, others are just by design or by selected setting.

* Language links are not visible on the home page
'Yes, indeed, there is a problem with these links, so I decided not to display them for the moment. I will have to try to install Drupal again and see whether this problem disappears or not.'

* Tag line and download button (top of page) are always English
'They can be translated and they are for several languages. To test, change the iso code at the end of this url http://mscore.sourceforge.net/drupal/?q=en (nl,fr,de,...) If it remains english, then they should be translated with the 'translate string' administer item'

* Menu (right-hand side) is incomplete for non-English pages
'Correct indeed, not everything has been translated yet and therefore, the menu is not complete.'

* Links page only available in English
'Just for testing, the links page is set on 'language independent'. This means the links page shows up at any choosen language'.

* Lacks automatic language negotiation (e.g. automatically display French version for French users)
'It does work for me, as it does work for Lasconic. In my case, it shows Dutch (nl) as default language'.

For the moment, a blog post is not set to be translatable. Pages are.
We could of course decide to add another type of content (news item) which can be translated and it set to be showed on the homepage, in between the blog posts.

I hope this clarifies already some questions.

Thomas

Issue with translation are fixed now. The problem was a bug in the drupal amadou theme (http://drupal.org/node/269307).
Solved.
