how to move notes horizontally

laura1814
First, let me say that I am very impressed by MuseScore and thrilled to find it!

I have been playing with it for a day or so, using a midi file I downloaded elsewhere and imported.  I am leaning MuseScore as I make changes to the score created when I imported the midi.

Some of my questions I've found answers to in Help and by searching the mailing list on nabble, but some not.  So I'm posting my first question.

I'm using the latest pre-release Windows build, which says on the pre-release site that it is build 1054;  however under "About" it shows v. 0.9.3 build 1012.  I've uninstalled and re-installed.

My first question is:  how do you move notes and rests horizontally within a measure?  Alternatively, how do you delete a rest?  I have a series of eighth and sixteenth notes, some with rests in between.  I am trying to change the duration values of the notes, and the program keeps adding rests when what I want to do is change the next note's position in the measure.  I have tried clicking and dragging notes and rests, using delete and backspace, highlighting a note or rest and clicking on another note value on the toolbar, everything I can think of.  I cannot seem to replace a rest with a note, though if I delete a note I get a rest.  What am I missing?

Thanks!

Good catch. You have right version--the text in the About box just
didn't get updated for the latest pre-release.

The way note input works in MuseScore you don't delete notes or rests
per say. Instead you replace or "write over the top of it" with a
different note or rest.

In note entry mode select the note duration and click on the staff to
replace whatever is there.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you cannot re-arrange what is in a measure.  In order to shift everything in a measure by a half beat, you have to go to the beginning of the measure (or the first note or rest you want to change) and then re-write the entire measure note by note.  You can't insert something new in the middle or take it out.  Essentially, the fuction is "Typeover," not "Insert."  Is that right?
