problems with first time compile on OSX Mavericks

Dewdman42
Trying to following the OSX compile instructions.  I used homebrew per the instructions to install the things requested.  also xcode6 with command line tools installed.

Tried to do the make -f Makefile.osx release, per instructions and get the following error:

 make -f Makefile.osx xcode
mkdir build.xcode; \
    cd build.xcode; \
    cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=../build.xcode/mscore/Debug -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=DEBUG \
          .. -G Xcode; \
    xcodebuild -project mscore.xcodeproj -target lrelease;

Seems there are some missing dependencies that are not spelled out.  Anyone can help?

The Nabble site did not correctly pass the quoted error text for some reason, so here it is again using just straight text.  Not sure what is the best way to send quoted code on this mail list.  Anyway some kind of build dependency seems to be missing even though I did the step outlined in the OSX instructions using homebrew

Can you run "brew list" to make sure that freetype is installed? if you see it in the list, it seems the build process can't find it because pkg-config can't find it. Check if you have /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc. If you don't, try to create a symlink from /usr/local/Cellar/freetype/2.5.2/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc

I am new to using brew.  What do you mean exactly by creating a symlink for freetype?

2.5.5 is better. By symlink I mean a symbolic link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link).
So something like
ln -s /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc /usr/local/Cellar/freetype/2.5.5/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc

Re: problems with first time compile on OSX Mavericks

Yes I know what  a symbolic link is.  It wasn’t clear to me before where you wanted me to create a sym link.  Are you sure your ln line below is not backwards?

There is already a sym link located at /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc which points to the Cellar version…  (other way around)

I am new to using brew.  What do you mean exactly by creating a symlink for freetype?

my free type is 2.5.5 by the way…not sure if that matters.  that is what brew installed when I followed the instructions.

This issue is resolved.  My homebrew setup was broken in some way.  I comletely removed homebrew and reinstalled it again and the build seems to be running now, so far so good.

2.5.5 is better. By symlink I mean a symbolic link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link).
So something like
ln -s /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc /usr/local/Cellar/freetype/2.5.5/lib/pkgconfig/freetype2.pc

Yes:

[/Volumes/Data/Development/git/MuseScore]: brew list
berkeley-db freetype lame libsamplerate pkg-config
cmake git libogg libsndfile portaudio
flac jack libpng libvorbis

I am new to using brew.  What do you mean exactly by creating a symlink for freetype?

my free type is 2.5.5 by the way…not sure if that matters.  that is what brew installed when I followed the instructions.

The Nabble site did not correctly pass the quoted error text for some reason, so here it is again using just straight text.  Not sure what is the best way to send quoted code on this mail list.  Anyway some kind of build dependency seems to be missing even though I did the step outlined in the OSX instructions using homebrew
